Resumo

The Tophane Fieldwork Project is a qualitatively oriented ethnographic research undertaken under the aegis of the Netherlands Institute in Turkey, and aimed to place this urban enclave in a wider scholarly framework to facilitate further studies into its history and preserve its perilous heritage. Divided into two intensive periods, the entirety of the project was completed over a month with the help of more than fifteen students and junior researchers. Interviewing the local inhabitants and documenting the material landscape of the neighborhood constituted the cornerstone of the project.
