About the Journal
ISSN 2182-8040 |
estrema: interdisciplinary journal of humanities is a digital and open-access journal from the Centre for Comparative Studies (CEComp) at the School of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon (FLUL). Its aim is to provide a platform for academic publication, dissemination, and debate for all students of national or international higher education, as well as other interested authors. Interdisciplinarity places estrema at the intersections and thresholds of the Humanities, where new scientific frontiers emerge through a comparative methodology. Therefore, submissions addressing themes and/or cultural or artistic objects in dialogue with the Humanities are welcome. All published articles undergo a process of double-blind peer review.
Frequency
estrema publishes one issue per year. Occasionally, the Editorial Team may contemplate one extra issue.
Sections and Editorial Policy
estrema includes the regular publication of articles and critical reviews, with the possibility of expanding its scope to include interviews, translations, and/or other elements exceptionally and when applicable to the editorial purposes of a specific issue. Each issue of the journal is directly related to a specific call for papers, detailing the thematic framework and scope of the submissions.
Articles from any national or international higher education student, as well as from other interested authors and researchers, will be considered if they fall within any of the scientific areas corresponding to the current curriculum of FLUL. In line with the interdisciplinary and comparative nature of the journal, articles reflecting on cultural, artistic, or textual objects from the following areas of knowledge will also be considered: Anthropology, Education Sciences, Medical Sciences, Musical Sciences, Political Sciences, Law, Economics, Geography, Psychoanalysis, Psychology, Sociology, Theology, Gender Studies, Geocriticism, Ecocriticism, and related areas, among others. estrema accepts submissions only during the period established by its call(s) for papers. All submissions that do not comply with formatting guidelines and/or are made outside the scope of a call for papers will not be accepted.
Publication and Open Access Policy
estrema is an open access journal, meaning that all its content is made available at no cost to the user or their institution. Users can read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, and link to the full texts of articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose without prior permission from the editors or author(s), as stipulated by the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC-BY 4.0). Clear and unequivocal attribution of authorial and editorial credit is mandatory.
estrema is an exclusively digital journal, subject to an open-access regime, and with no publication fees for authors. Therefore, all its content is made available immediately and free of charge to all users. Authors hold full copyright and publishing rights without restrictions. Authors may also include all versions of their texts in any repository, personal website, among others, as long as the original place of publication is explicitly stated, and the file is shared only after it has been officially published in estrema.
Publication Ethics and Anti-Plagiarism Policy
estrema aims to align its activities with all protocols and recommendations proposed by the Committee on Publication Ethics – COPE. However, as this is a journal ran by junior researchers, any and all ethical violations, including plagiarism in all its forms, will be investigated and resolved in collaboration with the Coordinator for Periodical Publications at CEComp.
All submissions accepted for peer review will undergo a process of plagiarism detection through the software Urkund/Ouriginal. Nevertheless, the Editorial Team of estrema requests that any potential violations identified by its users be reported as soon as possible through the following email: estrema.cecomp@letras.ulisboa.pt.
Archival and Preservation Policy
estrema is included in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), which uses the LOCKSS Program to ensure the digital preservation of publications on the OJS platform. This program guarantees immediate and permanent access to the journal's content, preserving it in its original and authenticated version. Thus, if the journal is discontinued or becomes unavailable online, future access to all issues and articles will be ensured.
