Formatting

General Aspects

  1. Bibliographic referencing should follow the author-date version of the 17th Edition of The Chicago Manual of Style;
  2. The article file should have 2.5cm margins, and the text should be justified, 1.5 spacing, and in Times New Roman font, size 12.
  3. All articles will be reviewed and pre-evaluated by the editors before being sent to reviewers.

Body of the Text

  1. All paragraphs, except the first in each section (when applicable), should be indented by 1.5cm;
  2. Subsection titles should be in bold, without indentation;
  3. In articles written in English, titles mentioned in the text, notes, and bibliography should use uppercase for the first letter of all names, adjectives, and verbs. In articles written in Portuguese and Spanish, as well as in other Romance languages, should use uppercase only for the first word and names. This also applies to titles and subsections in the text itself;
  4. Articles and critical reviews written in European Portuguese should indicate what version of the Orthographic Agreement they are using;
  5. Italic should be used for book titles, movies, plays, magazines, newspapers, and other works. Titles of articles and book chapters should be in quotation marks. Titles of poems and short stories should be in quotation marks, except when referring to a standalone publication of the works;
  6. Quoted names should be in full on their first occurrence, after which only the last name should be used. Example: “Jane Doe” on the first occurrence and “Doe” on subsequent occasions;
  7. Prose quotations with four lines or more should be indented. Quotations from poems with three lines or more should also be indented from the main text;
  8. Indented quotations should have a left indentation of 1.5cm, with single spacing, Times New Roman font, and size 11;
  9. Footnotes should be used instead of endnotes. Footnotes should be justified, single-spaced, and in size 10;
  10. Images in articles should be accompanied by an appropriate caption, including a brief description and the authorial source.

References

  1. At the end of the article, authors should include a list of all cited works under the section title "Reference List." References should be formatted and standardised according to the citation guidelines of the 17th Edition of The Chicago Manual of Style;
  2. All works cited or referred to throughout the article should appear in the “Reference List”. This does not include works consulted but not cited;
  3. Titles of works in English should use uppercase for the first letter of all names, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs. Titles in Portuguese, Spanish, as well as in other Romance languages, should use uppercase only for the first word and names.

Double-Blind Peer Review

The editors will inform the authors about the reception of their articles, as well as their eligibility or ineligibility. All eligible submissions will undergo a double-blind peer review process. The final decision to publish or reject a submission is held by the editors, and it will be based on the evaluations resulting from this process, which may take several months depending on the availability of the reviewers. It is common for changes, both superficial and substantial, to be proposed to the original texts following the review. All suggestions made by reviewers and editors will be sent to the authors and duly identified. The final publication of the article may depend on the implementation of the suggested changes.

CRITICAL REVIEWS

Reviews should have a minimum length of 700 and a maximum of 1,500 words, including footnotes and a reference list. The analysis should present a critical discussion of the work(s), well-founded and thoughtful, focusing on a maximum of two objects per review.

Critical reviews should not have a separate title but should be identified by the author’s name and the title of the reviewed work (Bold, Times New Roman, 12), followed by the applicable necessary information, according to the medium. Books require editorial information, publication date, and number of pages. Films and television series require the date, director(s), and distributor(s). Games, in all their variations, require the release date, developer(s), platform, and distributor(s)/publisher(s).

The body of the text should adhere to standard article formatting guidelines, as well as theoretical and academic rigour, meaning reviews cannot be mere opinion pieces and must be substantiated with scientific context. Whenever possible, reviews should be accompanied by an identifying image of the analysed object (book/game/video game cover, film poster, etc.). Only books and films, whether non-fiction or fiction, as well as tabletop games and video games, will be accepted as objects of analysis for critical review.

Example for books: Doe, Jane. Year. Title. Place of Publishing: Publisher. Xpp, ISBN: 1234567891234.

Example for films and television series: Doe, Jane, dir. Year. Title. Format (DVD, Streaming [Netflix, HBO, etc.], Blu-ray, etc.). Distributor.
