Abstract

This article aims to discuss the history as the writing of a fiction, as the production of one of the possible reports among many – and not only to describe the truth about the events. To develop this argument, we have chosen the novel A costa dos murmúrios, by the Portuguese writer Lidia Jorge, whose backdrop is the Colonial Wars of the 1960s. Throughout this narrative, is shown what is behind the official reports, narratives of battles and strategies and the percentages of dead and wounded: the daily lives of women and children, even if they do not fight and not take up weapons are as relevant to the story as the soldiers. As theoretical support, Linda Hutcheon, Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht and Paul Ricoeur‘s studies were selected.
