Burlesca ou triste: a viola nas mãos de Gregório de Matos e Fernando Pessoa
Keywords:
Fernando Pessoa, Gregório de Matos, violaAbstract
The viola has been widely known and used in vocal accompaniment in Brazil and in Portugal, mainly from the seventeenth century onwards. In order to compare its different treatments, both symbolic and significant data regarding the instrument in different historical and cultural spaces or moments, we will analyse the poems “Anica” of the Brazilian musician-poet Gregório de Matos (1636-1695) and “No, not tired...” and “I came to the window” of the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935). For this, we intend to make a comparative analysis and interpretative reading of selected poems in order to identify the tensions, contexts and poetic devices used to build certain associations attributed to the viola.
