Imagens do Corpo e Identidade: Entre Camilo Pessanha e Salvador Dalí

This article compares the works “Em Um Retrato” by Camilo Pessanha and “Metamorphosis of Narcissus” by Salvador Dali, subsuming them to the idea of the image of the body as a conferee of identity. Analysis of the portrait as an artistic means and its pragmatics: representation of a figure and its elongation in time, which is analogous to the promise expressed in Camilo Pessanha’s poem. Comparison of Dalí’s work and emphasis on how important the multiplicity of meanings of shapes is to the surrealist movement. Portrait and reflection as simulacra and means of subjectivation. An approach of synesthesia and anamorphosis as similar stylistic features in the symbolist and surrealist discourses, respectively. The dream as nudity of the subconscious and moment of great exposition of the id and the portrait as a picture organized around the artistic representation of the alter.
