Abstract

The work of Raúl Perez stands out in the panorama of Portuguese Surrealism not only for the technical and expressive uniqueness, but also for the affirmation of a symbolic universe, remarkably introspective, and very close to the alchemical and esoteric sources. The article aims to analyze the work of Raúl Perez, with incidence in the decades of 70 and 80, to identify imagetic constants or convergence territories, enlightening of the variations of his artistic discourse. The study identified an oscillation between the assertion of an ideal human dimension, of a physical and psychic unity – evoked in the androgynous reconstituted in its fullness – and, conversely, the fragmentation, extinction or death of this reality, which is implicit in the petrification and ruin of space and characters or in the flood, as a memory of a violent mutation crystallized in time, evidence of destruction, loss, separation or rupture.
