This essay examines the construction of literary metafiction, with two short stories as corpus, “A cicada” by Lygia Fagundes Telles and “Continuidade dos parques” by Julio Cortázar. Both short stories in question allow important discussions in the literary field, such as those concerning the boundaries between reality and fiction, the act of reading, the author-reader relationship and the process of construction of the literary text.
