The Editorial Team of estrema: interdisciplinary journal of humanities is pleased to present the second issue of its third volume: “Echoes of Life and Death: Interdisciplinary and Intermedial Perspectives.”This theme seeks to unravel the relationship between existence and mortality, and all the realities that fall within this dynamic, which is not exclusively dichotomous. It examines how these forces shape our understanding of the arts, humanities, social sciences, and beyond. The cultural, artistic, social, and linguistic examples, among others, are vast. Life and death are creative forces, sometimes born from one another, in a cycle that can be both devastating and generative — life brings death; death brings life. Therefore, we hope our readers enjoy this journey through the intricacies of life, death, and all the possibilities in between.

We extend our gratitude to all authors and interviewees for their contributions, as well as Italian artist Nunzio Paci who so kindly allowed his Wild Clavicula / Clavicola Selvatica (2021) — a manually altered x-ray on LED lightbox — to feature in our cover. Last but not least, we invite our readers to embark on this journey through the realms of life, death, and all possibilities in between.
